Sep 2009 [School Visits I]

In August, we launched an official website for our Foundation. Although its Japanese version is far more comprehensive, I believe this gives you a good overall picture of our Dream School Project.

In September, I had a privilege of visiting some of the top prep schools in Honolulu such as Iolani School and Punahou Academy. I was simply amazed to encounter their extravagant facilities both for academic and non-academic use which are made possible by an enormous amount of donations from the alumni together with a large endowment fund. What surprised me more, though, is the fact that the enrollment ratio for "Nihongo" remains to be the highest among all the foreign languages even today. This obviously results from the large number of Japanese descendants residing in Hawaii. This is an encouraging news since the schools there seem to be very positive about exchange programs with schools in Japan.

In October, I will be visiting top schools in the mainland U.S. including Cate School in Santa Barbara and Groton School in Boston. Let's hope these visits will also lead us into fruitful dialogues. Stay tuned!
